Lazio is a region in Central Italy, sharing a coast with the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is home to Rome, the capital of Italy, along with many other ancient Roman settlements that were once central to the Roman Empire. The Colosseum in Rome, the ancient port city of Ostia, and the ruins in Taqruinia are all examples of early Roman settlement in the area. Inland, Lazio is full of nature reserves, the Appenine mountains, and stone villages. Lazio has a lot to offer, so much that you can skip Rome altogether and still have a plethora of places to see ranging from lakes, beaches, hills, and seaside towns with incredible restaurants.
Places to go: Rome, Civitavecchia, Civita di Bagnoregio, Tivoli, Viterbo, and more.
