Aosta Valley (Valle d'Aosta)

Aosta Valley is a small Alpine region in Northern Italy bordering France and Switzerland. It's Alpine range includes the peaks of Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and the Gran Paradiso Park. The region is the most popular skiing destination in Italy with major resorts of Courmayeur and Cervinia. In the valleys you can find many castles and fortresses, most notably Castello Fénis and Castello di Verrès. Although very small, the region has a celebrated history of art, culture, and architecture ranging from Roman sites, to medieval castles, to Romanesque churches. Aosta is also home to a great cuisine with fine wine. French is mostly spoken throughout the region, but Italian is also spoken.

Some of the locations we will be visiting include: Courmayeur, Aosta, Breuil-Cervinia, Gran Paradiso Park, Mont Blanc, Cogne, and more.

The main red wine of this region is called Gamay.
